Brown coal filters to clean oil-water mixtures
Jonas Environmental Technologies has developed a brown coal filter for the treatment of oil-water mixtures. Brown coal is a very low cost raw material and, like activated carbon, is capable of removing a range of pollutants (e. g. hydrocarbons) from water. As a result, waste water containing oil can be treated at low cost.

Increased performance with bioactivated filters
Brown coal filters also contain natural, pollutant-degrading microorganisms for special applications to enhance the efficiency of the filters. The filters are particularly suitable for decentralized or mobile installations whose oil-containing waste water must otherwise be collected and disposed of at significant expense.
New combination with activated carbon

Brown coal filters may also be used in combination with activated carbon filters. A large proportion of the pollutants are captured by the (significantly less expensive) brown coal; the remaining part of the cleaning process is carried out by the activated carbon. The demands on the activated carbon filter are thus reduced and the length of its service life greatly increased.
